Brick Street Square

Client:

Project Description:

Town of Zionsville Redevelopment Commission

Location:

Zionsville, Ind.

In 2024, FRMWRK was engaged by the Town of Zionsville to plan and design Brick Street Square - a dynamic new urban public plaza in the heart of the town’s historic downtown Village. Situated along to the Village’s iconic brick Main Street, the plaza will transform an existing parking lot into a vibrant community space, reactivating a site that was part of Zionsville’s original 1852 plat following the arrival of the Indianapolis, Cincinnati & Lafayette Railroad.

The plaza is envisioned as a community and cultural hub, designed to accommodate events, promote social interaction, and stimulate further private investment within the Village. The plaza design honors the site’s historical context through contemporary interpretations of traditional forms and authentic materials.

Key features will include The Platform - a large performance pavilion with integrated storage and public restrooms, The Hub - a multi-use indoor programming and rental venue, shaded seating areas with movable furnishings, and The Lawn - a large central greenspace that is envisioned to be the future home of Zionsville’s Winterfest.

By eliminating the curb along its eastern edge, the plaza will integrate seamlessly with historic Main Street, creating a cohesive, pedestrian-friendly environment during community events such as farmers markets, art festivals, and the annual Zionsville Street Dance—a beloved summer tradition held for over 50 years, attracting approximately 7,500 residents and visitors each year with live music, food, and street dancing.
